The Stonewall Sails Regatta is the Knickerbocker Sailing Association’s yearly regatta held on Gay Pride Weekend. The 2011 Stonewall Sails Regatta will be held on Pride Saturday (June 25th) with proceeds going to support Hudson River Community Sailing, a non-profit organization. This follows on the success of last years Regatta and we are excited to work with this fantastic, non-profit organization once again.  We are pleased to announce that all donations made to HRCS are tax deductable.

Our Host: We are continuing our relationship this year with Hudson River Community Sailing.  Relying

on donations by individuals and corporations, as well as membership by the public, Hudson River Community Sailing has been in operation for several years with facilities on West Street and 26th street. Their mission is to provide learning experiences to youth participants through sailing. They provide their youth students with course credit with curriculum based on sailing. They also provide sailing to the greater NY community through membership and lessons. Their website (http://www.hudsonsailing.org) details their program. We strongly support participants becoming racing members of and donating to Hudson River Community Sailing outside your participation in the 2011 Stonewall Sails Regatta.

Place and Time: Saturday, June 25, 2011. 9:30AM Mandatory Skippers Meeting. Hudson River Community Sailing Boathouse, West Street @ 26th Street (Next to Frying Pan Lighthouse) in Manhattan. Racing will be held on the Hudson River in front of the Hoboken area waterfront.

Event Details: The 2011 Stonewall Sails Regatta will be held on up to 13 J-24 sailboats owned or chartered by Hudson River Community Sailing. Each boat will hold 4 Knickerbocker Sailing Association members or invited guests.  An additional crew member will be one Hudson River Community Sailing Association staff member or Hudson River Community Sailing certified skipper.

This year we are encouraging Corporate or Individual sponsorships of boats and the event.  Those interested in sponsorship should contact Bill Hellmers directly at billhellmers@gmail.com.

Participation is on a first come first serve basis. Lunch will be provided. There will be as many races as can be held between 10am and 2pm. Prizes will be awarded at a 2:30pm awards ceremony at the Frying Pan Floating Pier (cash bar and cash food available).

Our Entire Pride weekend events are dedicatated to the memory of Stephen Wannaker, 46, who died on Friday February 25, 2011 at his home in Brooklyn NY. Stephen was introduced to sailing by his partner Eric's parents. He quickly fell in love with sailing and became a board member of the Knickerbocker Saiing Association. He was an avid member of KSA and a friend to many of us. We miss and love you Stephen!

Donations to AMFAR are being collected in his honor.
